LAGOS PROCUREMENT AGENCY SET TO STRENGTHEN DUE PROCESS IN PUBLIC PROCUREMENT
The Director-General, Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Mr. Fatai Idowu Onafowote, has pointed out that the Agency is set to further consolidate its foothold on due process in public procurement.
Mr. Onafowote stated this while speaking at the opening ceremony of a Technical Training Programme on the Fundamentals of Public Procurement Process: Sustainable Procurement Empowerment Drive, organised by the Agency for selected Procurement Officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the State.
He added that the training programme was designed to train participants on the rudiments of public procurement process so that they could have “a good grasp and understanding of the basic documents, record keeping in public procurement and procurement process in general”.
The Director-General stressed the need for participants to be knowledgeable and versed in all the aspects of the training programme before they could be regarded and respected as true professionals in procurement, adding that participants must, therefore, seize the opportunity offered by the training programme to improve their skills and knowledge.
He also charged them to properly acquaint themselves with the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency Law 2021, Procurement Guidelines and Regulations so that they can play their role effectively as Procurement Officers in their various Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
Mr. Onafowote also urged participants to justify the huge resources the State Government is committing to their training and retraining by deploying their knowledge and skills towards ensuring that the resources at the disposal of the State Government are efficiently and sustainably managed for the provision of goods and services for the people of the State.
He also warned Procurement Officers against circumventing due process in public procurement and aiding and abetting corrupt practices in public procurement.
